Springfield Community is situated in the north-east of the London Borough of Hackney on the border of Haringey and Waltham Forest. There are 200 pupils on roll aged from 3 to 11 of whom 33 % are eligible to claim free school meals. The pupils come from a diverse range of ethnic backgrounds and almost two-thirds of the pupils have English as an additional language. Many of these are at the early stages of learning English.
Springfield Community is close to the River Lee and Walthamstow marshes, which offer a range of environmental opportunities. The school’s population largely reflects the local area, which has a wide racial mix including English, Turkish,
African-Caribbean, South American and Central European. The school coexists peacefully with the main communities in the area, which are Hassidic and Orthodox Jews. The Jewish community attends their own schools. The main language groups in the school after English are Portugese and Polish.
Springfield Community is a one form entry school, which means that there is one class per year group. It is a small, friendly school where the children mix harmoniously and are keen to learn.
There is a nursery with 25 full time equivalent children. This simply means that there is a full-time group and a part time group but that at any one time there are 25 children in the class.
Springfield Community had an Ofsted inspection in June 2009 and the school was judged to be a good school . Teaching and Learning was identified as being consistently good and pupils' enjoyment of learning was graded outstanding. |
